Billy James Allday, 80, of Jackson, passed away June 29, 2016 at his residence. He was born Dec. 22, 1935 to Leslie and Addie Ray Allday. He had retired as a station captain with the Jackson Volunteer Fire Department having served a total of 40 years with the department, as a Chief Warrant Officer III in the National Guard and as an employee of Ciba. Allday also served on the Jackson City Council for 24 years.
Allday, served as President of the Alabama Firefighters Association in 1980. He also served as the Secretary/Treasurer for 10 years and was seated on the Scholarship Committee for 10 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jim Earl Allday; granddaughter, Jamie Slayton and son-inlaw, Joe Slayton.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Allday; children, Wayne (Meltri) Allday, Wanda A. (Mike) Blount and Brenda A. Long; grandchildren, Brian (Annie) Long, Michael Allday, Abby Allday (Larry) Templeton, Meagan Blount (Chad) Burnett and Molly Blount (Lance) Burnett; great-grandchild, Jade Lucy; sister, Betty Joyce Pugh; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services were Saturday, July 2, at Forest Avenue Baptist Church, with the Revs. Dustin Shelander and Jesse Griffith officiating. Interment followed at Trinity Memorial Gardens with Lathan Funeral Home directing.
Active pallbearers included John Brown, Dwight Pugh, Mike Syphrit, Rodger Dean, Jeremy Allday and Buzz Jordan. Honorary pallbearers were the members of the Jackson Volunteer Fire Department, Richard Mc- Mullen, Curtis Sullivan, Sammy Wallace and Melvin Joiner.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pilots for Christ or the Jackson Volunteer Fire Department.
